Nidec's Growth Strategy
Untiring zeal to overcome growth challenges is what lies at the core of our business philosophy.

We are striving to grow into the No.1 provider of drive technology solutions, with a particular focus on the development and manufacturing of electric motors, or in broader terms, "everything that spins and moves." Our flagship products, BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS, deliver highly competitive environmental advantages precisely matched to the needs of the times, including high energy efficiency, long operating life and low running noise, as well as superior lightness and compactness. Today, Nidec's BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS hold global leadership positions in a broad spectrum of motor markets for applications ranging from information technology devices and automobiles to home appliances and industrial equipment.

Our mid-term growth plan (Vision 2015) revolves around both organic and M&A growth and eyes sales of 2 trillion yen for FY2015. The pathway leading to these ambitious targets is being paved with our strong commitment to the "3-New" initiative; new product development, new market exploration and new customer base expansion.

A. Broaden BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR applications in the IT & digital appliance markets
In today's IT and digital appliance market, the buzzwords are: foot-print downsizing, storage capacity increases, and application diversification. Having cleared one technological hurdle after another, we are now seeing an increasing number of our BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR lines at work inside hard disk drives and optical disk drives used for a broadened range of applications, including PCs, DVDs, game machines, car navigation systems, digital camcorders, etc. We are poised to further explore these markets with great growth potential through ceaseless development and introduction of state-of-the-art motors, taking full advantage of our excellent market position in these fields.

B. Encourage the replacement of traditional types of motors with BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS
Nidec's vast array of BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS, with distinctive superiority over traditional counterparts, are fast finding homes in various applications such as home appliances, office equipment and likes - areas that have been traditionally occupied by AC motors, or brush-commutated DC motors. Firmly convinced of their significant marketability, we will continue to accelerate the current trend by steadily taking over the existing demand for conventional motors.

C. Accommodate new needs for BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS in the automobile industry
As automobiles become more and more dependent on electronic control, new needs for motors arise as a means to activate components such as power steering systems, brakes, suspensions, etc... Attracting much attention here are some of the characteristics specific to BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS, high controllability, enhanced power economy, and among others, a design that curbs electromagnetic noise generation - to near-zero levels, thereby preventing potential malfunction of neighboring electronics. We have been - supplying brushless motors for hydraulic power steering systems while developing - additional lines for use in new handling and riding systems including full power steering systems, electric brakes, electric suspensions, and others. We are planning to grow this business into Nidec's second largest income stream next to the HDD spindle motor business.
