We measure our environmental capability against two yardsticks—the material composition of and manufacturing process for our products. In view of enhanced safety and environmental friendliness, measures in action include a formulation of the medium-term environmental management program starting from FY2004. This program is designed to reduce the use of harmful substances for our products and improve energy efficiency in the production process. Since this is a summary of reports submitted by each office and plant, please refer to “Business Unit Performance” for details.

		Acquisition of ISO14001 certification by bases in Japan
	Environmental Education	In-depth environmental education for all employees	We provided all new and mid-career employees with awareness-raising education, and newly started an ISO management system correspondence education course from FY2006.
	Environmental Accounting	Formulation and maintenance of an environmental accounting system	We expanded the area of our environmental accounting system to include all domestic offices and four overseas offices in Thailand, the Philippines, Dalian (China), and Singapore, and disclosed relevant information to them.
Products	Chemical Substance Control	Formulation and maintenance of an environmental chemical control system	Upon the July 2006 effectuation of the RoHS Directive in Europe, we introduced a group-wide "environment-related substance management system," and provided R&D; offices and mass-production sites with 25 units of analytical equipment to enhance the system to manage and reduce the use of toxic substances used for our products.

	Logistics	Improvement of logistics efficiency	We founded Nidec Logistics Corporation in 2004 to improve our group company's logistical efficiency. We improved our logistical efficiency in China, and promoted to shorten lead time and reuse packing materials.
Environmental Communication	Disclosure	Periodical issuance of environment report	We issue our social and environmental report annually, promoting information disclosure to our stakeholders.
		Posting environment information on our Web site	We disclosed our company's environmental information with topics in Japanese and English.
	Social action program	Contribution to local communities	We mainly cleaned up areas around our offices, launched an environmental fund-raising campaign, and planted trees.
