Nidec selected as an "ESG conscious company" by Tokyo Stock Exchange Group, Inc.
Nidec Corporation ("Nidec") was selected as an "ESG conscious company" by Tokyo Stock Exchange Group, Inc. ("TSEG") on July 11, 2012.
"ESG" stands for "Environmental, Social, and Governance," and it is generally thought that companies appropriately taking account of ESG factors and investment in these companies based on evaluation of their ESG initiatives will contribute to the solution of global environmental problems, the improvement of social conditions, and eventually, to the formation of a sustainable society.
ESG scoring criteria are as follows;
(1) Among companies listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange ("TSE"), those with the top ESG scores within each of the 17 industry sectors in TOPIX divided up between the large-cap and small/medium-cap stocks were selected.
(2) Additional screening was conducted to identify the companies in each resulting group with an ROE (return of equity) that surpassed the industry average.
(3) Based on the results of (1) and (2) above, if there is more than one company in a group, the one with the highest ROE was selected.
