2008 F5B (Electric Flight) Japan Championships took place on Nov. 29 and 30 in Kasaoka city, Okayama prefecture. Team Nidec, using planes powered by Nidec motors, swept the top three places, repeating last year's feat. Individually winners were Miyashita (champion), Sugano in 2nd place, and Sakuraba in 3rd place.

2008 F5B (Electric Flight) World Championships took place during September 14-21 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Team Japan, who flew planes powered by Nidec motors, placed 4th overall, after World Champions Austria, second place USA, and third place France. Individually, Ueyama was in 10th place, Miyashita 15th, and Sugano in 25th place.

In the 2007 F5B JAPAN CHAMPIONSHIP, a competition for radio-controlled electric gliders, held on Nov. 24 and 25, planes powered by motors developed by NMERL won the top three places.

Dr. Ming Feng retired from his position as Senior Scientist at NMERL to return to his hometown, Beijing, where he has joined the faculty of the University of Science and Technology Beijing as Professor.
