prefecture, Japan, in 1940. He studied plasma physics and received a
Masters Degree in 1964 from Tohoku University. He was with TEAC Corporation
during 1964-65. In 1971, he received the Doctor of Engineering Degree
from Tohoku University for a study on electromagnetic theory of electric
machines and its application to hysteresis and eddy-current motors. He
joined the faculty at the Polytechnic University of Japan in 1965, where
he was Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Power
Electronics until April 2005, when he became the founding Director of
NMERL. He has written over 30 books in Japanese and 6 in English mainly
on small precision motors and its controls. |

Shigeru Sadotomo was born in Japan in 1949.
He received his B.S. Mechanical Engineering in 1973 from Kanazawa University.
From 1973 to 1985, he worked for Shizuoka Machine Tool Co., where he
was engaged in designing numerically controlled milling machines and
machining centres. From 1985 to 1996, he was with the IAI Corp., where
he designed industrial robots. In 1996, he founded Saad Techno Ltd. to
provide consultative services on factory automation. There he developed
an ultrasonic sensor for handicapped people, and an electric motor analysis
software. He has also been serving as an ISO QMS auditor and consultant
since 1999 and 2002, respectively. Since NMERL was founded in 2005, Mr. Sadotomo was Manager of Advanced Programming until September 2008, when he retired from his fulltime position at NMERL to become Advisor. |
