We respect the culture and customs of each country and region where we operate, and our business activities are launched based on our CSR Charter that also includes "Harmony with the society."
To contribute to each local community in a more committed and effective way, each of our sites has a secretariat for individual projects and engages in various activities proactively.
Anticipating the issues that each community faces, we understand our what needs to be done on our part and launch activities that focus on two-way communication with the communities.
Major activities in FY2010
Career-assisting education for people in the next generation
At Nidec, a broad-ranging carrier education based on our business activities is conducted for children and students who will carry as the next generation.
Environmental and crafting classes for elementary school students.
"Motor and global environment" classes conducted in elementary schools in Kyoto
Since FY2007, Nidec has been holding environmental classes for elementary school students in Kyoto as a continuous activity with the goal of deepening the interest in and understanding of global environment and science of the children.
In FY2010, the class was held at three schools for about 120 children with the three topics (1) What is a motor (2) Motors are used widely around us (3) The role of Nidec as manufacturer of environmentally-friendly energy-saving motors introduced in lecture form. At the same time the children were asked to think about what they can do for the global environment, thus learning about everyday environmental protection.
Also, to make the children aware of the fun of making things, we built a clip motor in one part of the class.
In the future, we will continue with this project inside and outside of Japan and work to widen its scope.
Tour of Nagano Technical Center and Motor class

In October 2010, app.. 70 fifth-grader from the Akahohigashi Elementary School in Komagane-city were given a tour of the Nagano Technical Center, which has cutting edge research facilities, and made motors using nails and batteries as part of the "Motor class - Let's build motors from everyday things around us."
Lecture regarding environmental awareness at an elementary school in the Philippines

In June 2010, Nidec Precision Philippines Corporation conducted a lecture for app. 60 students of Loma Elementary School in Barangay about things that can be done for improving the living conditions in the local community.
Nidec Philippines Corporation and Nidec Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. are also conducting environment-related lectures.
On-the-job experience for junior high school students
A Kyoto middle school visits head office and Central Technical Laboratory
In January 2011, app. 30 first-grade students of the Kuze Middle School in Kyoto toured the research facilities and show room. Nidec technical staff answered questions about their work and motors and explained the interesting things of their jobs and their efforts for technology improvement by talking about various job experiences.
Lectures for undergraduate and graduate students
Business strategy lecture at economics faculty of Shinshu University
In June 2010, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Nidec, Mr. Yoshimatsu, gave a lecture about the company's efforts and results facing the financial crisis as well as our business strategy, titled "The manufacturing industry in the financial crisis."
Kyoto CSR Network: CSR lecture at Ryukoku University Graduate School
In May 2011, we held a CSR lecture at the Fukakusa Campus of Ryukoku University. This lecture was part of the lectures organized by the "Kyoto CSR Network" to give an insight into CSR activities of companies and extended over 90 minutes. This year, Nidec introduced its CSR activities within its core business to 60 persons.
Lecture at Dalian University of Technology
Nidec (Dalian) Limited gave a lecture in November 2010 at Dalian University of Technology about motor technology and what kind of knowledge university students should acquire.
Lecture at Nationalities University
Nidec (Dalian) Limited gave a lecture in December 2010 at Nationalities University about the human resources required by companies and what kind of knowledge university students should acquire.
Support for organizations that share the same philosophy with us
Finding agreement in the philosophy of striving for the "true product making" -Support of the Le Mans project of Tokai University-
Nidec agrees with the philosophy of the Le Mans project at the Tokai University "Nurturing students with human qualities who are problem-solvers to achieve 'true product making'" and supported the university as main sponsor for the participation in the Asia Series.
On November 7, the team was able to complete the final race of the "Asian Le Mans Series" held at the Zhuhai International Circuit in Guangdong, China. This is a great accomplishment that they achieved as the only student team.
The project plans to participate in the Le Mans race in FY2011with a hybrid electric vehicle, for which Nidec will together with the University research and develop the motor used in the racing car.
Nidec will with its business continue to be active for the strengthening of manufacturing in Japan.
Social contributions based on "Harmony with the society"
Nidec is conducting various activities with the goal of co-existence and co-prosperity as well as respect for the each country's or region's culture and customs based on the thinking of "Harmony with the society" that is part of our CSR charter.
Smart contribution collection at domestic sites
Headquarters, Central Technical Laboratory
The Center has a vending machine designated for ecological donations. In this system, beverage makers charge vending machines users extra money for the payment of their products, and part of the sales from the vending machines will be donated for ecological activities.
Shiga Technical Center
The employee cafeteria offers a "donation lunch," by which part of the payment for certain dishes in the lunch is donated. Also, there is a donation day in the building, where part of the sales of products of private brands is donated.
Nagano Technical Center
The Center, from which many employees go on overseas business trips, has a "foreign currency donation" system where those who returned from overseas countries donate their money from the business trips.
Donation activities at overseas sites
In our overseas sites, the spirit of donating and voluntary work has taken hold and the activities are well-established.
At each factory of Nidec Electronics (Thailand), computers, industrial materials, office materials, and monies, etc., are continuously and regularly donated to schools, temples and similar.
Also, the three sites at Nidec Vietnam and in the Philippines present regularly computers, copy machines, tables, white boards, etc., to the communities close by as well as schools and underprivileged children.
Blood donation
Nidec conducts actively blood donations at each site. In FY2010, 765 employees (domestic: 339, overseas: 426) donated blood at the site.
Regional contribution with the Nidec Sankyo speed skating team
For the development of the speed skating sport and local revitalization
A part of the Nidec Group is the Nidec Sankyo speed skating team that sent four skaters to the Vancouver Olympics in February 2010 whose medal wins made headlines in Japan.
The team is training hard every day to leave a good record in the speed skating sport, and at the same time all skaters and the trainer conduct skating classes and lectures and are active for the local community and the further development of the skating sport.
The activities of the team were recognized in the last term with several awards received from Nagano Prefecture and local newspapers and TV stations.

Awards from outside-organizations
An executive manager of Nidec Subic Philippines Corporation receives award from the Subic Administrative Agency
An executive manager of Nidec Subic Philippines has been awarded by the Subic Administrative Agency as having been successful in the field of carrier education. This award has been established to encourage carrier education for the development of Philippine human resources and was given to 10 persons.
The manager worked for nine years as production technology staff in manufacturing and rose to the position of General Manager of Production Control.
She is considered a role model for all local employees at Nidec Subic Philippines.
Nidec Philippines Corporation receives "Blue Rating Award" for the second consecutive year
The governmental group LLDA under the umbrella of the Philippine Environmental Resources Agency recognized the performance of the waste water control at Nidec Philippines Corp. and gave the award for the second consecutive year.
The Employee Organization, the representative of employees at Nidec Corp., receives a carbon offset award
In September 2010, the Employee Organization that represents employees of Nidec donated the equivalent amount for the CO2 emitted during a company trip organized by the organization based on the carbon offset principle. For this, the Employee Organization was awarded by gConscious, Inc.
