Environmental management promotion system
Positioned as the axis of our Environmental Management System, the Environment and Quality Management Committee functions as a forum for exchanging information and know-how to ensure a well-guided administration of the System.
- The EM Committee's roles:
- The Committee act to: (i) create systems to make a company-wide policy related to, operate, and (ii) improve the entire Nidec Group’s environmental management activities, and (iii) collect and share information.
Compliance with environmental laws and regulations
In addition to engaging in daily activities based on an internal standard for various laws and regulations, we thoroughly check if applicable rules are properly followed, and always comply with laws and regulations.
FY2009 saw no violation of laws or regulations at domestic sites. At overseas sites in the Philippines and Thailand, there was a violation concerning an excessive amount of drainage beyond limit, but appropriate actions were taken by reporting the incidents to government authorities. No environmental damage occurred, or no fine was charged against us, as a result of any violation.
Environmental accidents and emergencies
We have an internal organization of personnel to handle leakage of dangerous substances from a storage as well as fire and leakage (e.g. gas leakage) at our LPG storages.
FY2009 saw no incident or accident that required emergency measures inside/outside Japan, and no violation of laws or regulations.
Environmental education
Raising individual employees’ environmental consciousness is important in promoting actions for environmental issues. We provide environmental education and promotion campaigns appropriate for our sites and offices, including education for new employees, consciousness-raising education, environmental conservation education for all personnel concerned, and accident- and emergency-handling training.
International standard certifications
Our domestic and overseas R&D and production sites have ISO9001, ISO/TS16949, and other quality management systems in place.
